Roy Haylock burst onto a worldwide stage on the sixth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. He was the hilariously charming Bianca Del Rio, becoming a fan-favourite, frontrunner and eventually winning the series.

Haylock grew up in Louisiana and began acting and performing at a young age. Later in life he turned his hand to costume design for his High School plays. At the age of 17, Haylock won the Big Easy Entertainment Award for Best Costume Design for Snow Queen. This was an award he has been nominated for 13 times since and won six more.

In 1996, Haylock began performing as drag queen Bianca Del Rio. He won the New Orleans Gay Entertainer of the Year award for three years. Come 2006, Haylock moved to New York City and worked as a costume designer on shows, ballet and opera while continuing performing as his on-stage persona.

TV Work

Del Rio was featured on the web series Queens of Drag: NYC by gay.com in 2010. He appeared alongside other notable names like Lady Bunny and Sherry Vine. Three years later, she joined the line-up alongside 13 other queens for the sixth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. After winning the series, Del Rio starred in the indie film, Hurricane Bianca, alongside SNL star Rachel Dratch.

Del Rio toured consistently for the next number of years. He also wrote stand-up shows like The Rolodex of HateNot Today Satan, and Blame It On Bianca Del Rio. She also became the first drag queen to headline at Wembley Arena on her 2019 tour, It’s Jester Joke.

In 2019, Del Rio joined the cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie on the West End. He played the role of retired drag queen Loco Chanelle. Del Rio’s success in the role resulted in her being cast in the 2021 movie adaption of the show in the role of Miss Haylock.
