Reverend and the Makers are the danceable indie band from Sheffield. Coming to Glasgow’s Saint Luke’s on 13th February 2023.

Even pre-Reverend & The Makers, Jon McClure was an ever-present in the Sheffield music scene, fronting two locally beloved groups (Judan Suki and 1984) and guiding Alex Turner towards superstardom. The latter immortalised his mentor by namedropping 1984 in the Arctic Monkey’s massive hit ‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor’.

With international attention on his city in general and Turner in particular, McClure put together Reverend & The Makers. After a 2006 tour with the Arctic Monkeys, R&TM were selling out mid-sized venues in their hometown without ever having put out an official release. That was rectified when they signed to Wall of Sound and released two singles in 2007, followed by their debut album The State Of Things that September.

Rumours of the band’s early demise were both confirmed and denied in 2008, but the band returned with a revamped line-up and a 2009 tour with Oasis. A second album A French Kiss In The Chaos followed before McClure put the band on hiatus for the rest of the decade.

When Reverend & The Makers returned in 2011, it was with renewed vigour and a string of releases that solidified their reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting indie bands. Noel Gallagher said their 2014 record Thirty Two was, ““like nothing I’ve heard since the great concept albums of the 60s”.

Mirrors and The Death Of A King followed, before the band rounded out the decade with a Best Of in 2019. In 2022, Reverend & The Makers announced their first new record in almost six years, Heatwave In The Cold North, due in April 2023. The announcement was accompanied by UK tour dates.
