The Japanese House is the dreamy atmospheric indie pop project fronted by English musician Amber Bain. Coming to Glasgow’s SWG3 Galvanizers on 7th May 2024.

The Japanese House is the musical project of English singer, songwriter and producer Amber Bain. Born in 1995 in Buckinghamshire, Bain developed a passion for music from an early age. Inspired by artists including Joni Mitchell, Bon Iver and The 1975. She began writing her own songs and experimenting with production techniques.

In 2015, The Japanese House released her debut EP, Pools To Bathe In. The EP garnered critical acclaim for its dreamy, atmospheric soundscapes and introspective lyrics. Bain’s ethereal vocals and unique blend of electronic and indie-pop elements drew comparisons to artists like Imogen Heap and Beach House.

Over the next three years, The Japanese House maintained a pace of one well-received EP each year. Starting with Clean in 2015, followed by Swim Against The Tide and Saw You In A Dream.

By the time Bain came to release The Japanese House’s debut full-length in 2019, her sound and songwriting prowess had evolved considerably. Good At Falling delved deeper into her personal experiences, addressing themes of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery. The project received widespread acclaim for its emotional depth and the maturity of its songwriting.

Since then, The Japanese House continued to impress with her releases, including the 2020 EP Chewing Cotton Wool and the 2021 single ‘Dionne’, co-written with Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon. After an extended absence, The Japanese House returned in 2023 with the single ‘Boyhood’, ahead of Bain’s second full-length, In The End It Always Does.
